Willie “Bill” Stratton Kirk, 84 of Chapmanville, WV, gained his wings and entered into Jesus' arms on December 12, 2025, at Boone Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 24, 1941 in Harts, WV to the late Lucian and Myrtle (Farley) Kirk.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Avonelle (Forest) Moore, Clarice (Roger) Linkous, and Rhonda Joy Kirk, five brothers, Okey T. (Wanda) Kirk, Gene (Delores) Kirk, Robert Kirk, Tracy (Jean) Kirk, and Doug (Avanell) Kirk, nephews, Kenny Kirk, Richard Kirk, Ralph Kirk Jr, Jim Brumfield, Justin Brumfield, Matt Lucas, and Ayden Kirk, brothers-in-law, Larry Lucas, Gary Bryant, John Adams, Odie Tomblin and for those of you who knew him, his beloved horse Rockin Robin who gave mom a close run for his love.
Bill was the last founder of Piney Community Church where he devoted his life from the very first brick. Being a Christian and going to Heaven was his goal and he started that journey at the age of 12 years old. He was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir leader and he sang with Mattie Johnson and the Kirk Quarter until he was unable to continue. Riding and showing horses, coon hunting, his grandchildren and great grandchildren were his greatest pleasures.
Those left to carry on his legacy is his wife of 60 years Janice (Lucas) Kirk of Chapmanville; his children, Scott (Carrie) Kirk of Lavalette, Rebecca (Jack) Ball, Krista (Ray) Murray and Billy (Andrea) Kirk all of Chapmanville; grandchildren, Nick (Caitlyn) Ball, Tyler Ball, Lucas Ball, Jil Farris, Zak (McKenzie) Kirk, Kayla Kirk (Jake Crawford), Austin Kirk (Miranda Stapleton), Jackson Kirk and Karly Kirk; great grandchildren, Navy Kirk, Kollyns Farris, Stratton Crawford (Papaw Bills namesake), Theo Ball, Millie Kirk, Carrington Kirk Crawford, and Colson Ball (due in February); bonus grandchildren, Adley, Jake, Gracie, Abbi, Emma and Kayne; siblings, Ralph (Reda) Kirk, Geraldine Adams, Roger (Sandy) Kirk and Frances Tomblin; in-laws, Phyllis Bryant, Linda Lucas, Elmer (Debbie) Lucas, Lucian Lucas and Carolyn Kirk; special nieces, Ada Brumfield and Nina Lucas who were like daughters and always there for him along with many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
A special thanks to Bill's sons-in-law, Jack and Ray for all of your help in caring for Bill.
Services will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Freeman Funeral Home with Jimmy Carter officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Lucas Mountain View Cemetery at 14-Mile Mountain in Harts, WV.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Nick Ball, Austin Kirk, Zak Kirk, Jackson Kirk, sons-in-law, Jack Ball, Ray Murray, and very special friend, Johnny Fleming.
Honorary pallbearers will be, Tyler and Lucas Ball, Gale Moore, James “Red” Bowers, Jake Crawford and Jake Thompson.
