Vernon Sparks

Vernon Sparks, 88, of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on March 8, 2023 at his residence.

He was born September 19, 1934 in Earling, WV, the son of the late Less & Jessie Sparks.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Gladys June Sparks, son, Donald Ray Sparks, his wife of 36 years, Betha Freeman Sparks, brothers, Clyde Sparks, and Stanley Sparks, and sisters, Thelma Maynard and Hazel Courts.

Vernon enjoyed his church, church family and those that visited. He also enjoyed going to his farm and spending time there with his children, hunting, and working. Vernon was employed for 27 years with Westmoreland Coal Company.

Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Deloris (Joe) Holtzclaw; three sons, Vernon Eugene (Sue) Sparks, Ronald G. (Kathy) Sparks and Scottie Lee (Cindy) Sparks; one step-daughter, Janet (Ken) Green; grandchildren, Stephanie (Wes) Perry, Jamie (Valerie) Sparks, Jason (Crystal) Sparks, Travis Sparks, Joe (Tabetha) Holtzclaw, Aaron (Amanda) Sparks, Jared Holtzclaw; step-grandchildren, David (Mandy) Green and Michael (Natalie) Green; great-grandchildren, Tyler Perry, Kaitlin Sparks, Zach Perry, Katie Jo Holtzclaw, Bill Holtzclaw, Ryder Sparks, and Piper Sparks; step-great grandchildren, Hailey, Owen, Chloe, Bristol, Preston, Mckala, Lilly and Noah Green, Grace and Faith Greene; and great-great grandchildren, Kingsley, Xavier, Maverick Perry and Easton.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Freeman Funeral Home with Eugene Sparks and Harry Dingess officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, WV.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 13, 2023 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and other family.
