Thomas Edward Adkins, 73, of East Fork of Twelve Pole, Dingess, WV, departed this life on May 14, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born June 27, 1948 in Verdunville, WV, the son of the late Woodrow and Ellen Adkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother & father-in-law, Leonard & Corine (Meeks) Adkins, his maternal grandparents, Wade & Dicie Bryant, paternal grandparents, Pharoah & Carrie Adkins, two brothers, Dee Adkins and Elwood Adkins, brothers-in-law, Dallas Adkins, Dewey Dillon, Robert Olson and Big Jim Marcum (who he loved as his brother), sisters-in-law, Sherry Adkins, Gladys Adkins and Joanna Adkins, two nephews, Brennan Browning and Jonathan Carter, one niece, Susan Legg, and his cousin-in-law, Alonzo Tomblin (who he loved as his brother).
Thomas was a wounded Vietnam Veteran and a coal miner for 37 years.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Mary Iris Adkins who he married on October 23, 1971; his three children, Corina Michelle Hensley (David), Jammie Adkins (Amanda), and Jason Adkins (Frances Tomblin); eight grandchildren, Taz Crum, Shelby Mullins, Corina Worke, David (Manny) Hensley, Jammie Adkins II, Brooklyn Adkins, Jalyn Adkins and Ella Adkins; six great-grandchildren, Karson, Landyn, Ranger, Raiden, Ava and Penelope; five step grandchildren, Chris and Taylor Ward, Tabitha Hensley, Tara Derr and Travis Hensley; twelve step-great grandchildren, Natalee, Hadlee, Gannon, Caden, Camron, Hunter, Jayden, Cullen, Jacob, Chase, Alissa and Ethan; four sisters, Sherlene Olson and Gay (Willis) Carter of Verdunville, WV, Iva Stallard and Sherry (Mary Ann Bevins) Marcum of Mountain Home, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Audrey Adkins, who he loved as a daughter; his dear friend and neighbor, Reynold Hall; brothers-in-law, Richard (Regina) Adkins and their son, Jeremy (Katrina) Adkins, and Larry (Kelli) Adkins and their children, Shane & Janice Adkins.
Services will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Manasses Hensley Jr officiating. Burial will follow at Adkins Cemetery, Harts, WV.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Shelby Mullins, David (Manny) Hensley, Jammie Adkins II and his nephews, Luke Marcum, Scott Adkins, Joseph Carter, David Lee Browning, Brent Osborne and Isaiah Tomblin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Harrison, Everal Tomblin, Jr, Bill Adkins, Wandle Meeks, Willis Carter Jr and Reynold Hall.
