Terry “Matt” Lucas, 41 of Greenshoal Road, Harts, WV, departed this life on July 28, 2025 at CAMC General Hospital in Charleston, WV.

He was born on Father's Day, June 17, 1984 in Huntington, WV, the son of Terry “Tub” Lucas and Nina Moore Lucas.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Archie & Mabel Lucas and Forest and Avonelle Moore, father-in-law, Timmy Sargent, brother-in-law, Bo Sargent and his special cousins that he considered as his brothers, Jim and Justin Brumfield.

Matt loved to help people. In his youth to early adulthood, he trained and volunteered his time as a volunteer fire fighter at Harts and Chapmanville Fire Departments. He rose to the rank of fire chief at the Harts Fire Department. Matt was a 2002 graduate of Chapmanville High School. He was a member of the Aracoma Lodge #99. Matt loved the mountains, fishing, and hunting. He loved his job, work crew, home and his greatest love was his family.

In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kimberly Lucas of Harts; two daughters, McKenzie Lucas of Harts and Madison Marcum Lucas of Verdunville; mother-in-law, Sherrie Sargent of Verdunville; his aunts and uncles, Rick & Ada Brumfield of Harts, Gale Moore of Salem, VA, Lorraine Lambert of Harts and Susie Cook of Virginia; sister-in-law, Amanda Sargent; extended family, Brandon, BethAnn Kemp and Daisy Kemp; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Shining Light United Baptist Church with Pastors Jimmy Carter and Rick Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Lucas Cemetery, at Greenshoal Road, Harts, WV with a Masonic graveside service.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the church.

Pallbearers will be his work crew, Clifford Vance Jr., Jeff McCallister, Greg Farley, Jamie Watkins, Chandler Williams and Jeremy Adkins.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mickey Sperry, Tony Capua, DJ Smith, David “Bub” Abbott, Jakob “Nephew” Abbott, Ronald “Punk” Abbott, Jarrod Abbott and Bradley Manns.

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
