Sidney Stroud Obituary

Sidney Anderson Stroud, 81 of Dingess, WV, departed this life on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at his residence.

 

He was born June 29, 1942, in Accoville, WV the son of the late Harmon Toney Stroud and Armilda Browning Stroud Maynard.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by stepfather, Ersell Maynard; brother, Earnest Kenneth Stroud; sister, Sharon Lynn Maynard; brother-in-law, Dallas Meeks; maternal grandparents, Willie and Georgia Browning; paternal grandparents, Harmon and Katherine Stroud; in-laws, James and Emily Ferguson; and the mother of his grandchildren, Eva Bryant Marcum.

 

Sid was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished spending time with his family. Above all he was a Christian and a member of the Mt. Moriah United Baptist Church since 1998, serving as a minister since 2004. He greatly enjoyed long conversations with friends and family about the bible, sharing his vast knowledge about the Lord.

 

He worked for Mingo County Schools driving a school bus for 29 years, touching the lives of many children who loved him dearly. He also worked as a carpenter, building homes for many, providing for his family. He was loved by many and missed by all.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Magaline Ferguson Stroud; sons, Sidney Dwayne Stroud and James “Jimmy” Stroud (Rosemary Newsome Adkins); sisters, Georgia (Bill) Maynard and Sharol Maynard Meeks; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Keshia) Stroud and Emily (Matt) Cook; great grandchildren, John Stroud, Carter Stroud, Bryson Henry, Colt Stroud, and Eliana Cook; sister in law, Dottie Stroud; special friends, Johnnie Tomblin and Evan Dale Vance; and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.

 

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 14, 2024, starting 6:00 PM with a service at 7:00 PM at the Mt. Moriah United Baptist Church.

 

Funeral will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, March 15, 2024, at Mt. Moriah United Baptist Church with Kennith Ferguson and David Messer officiating. Burial will follow at the Joe Maynard Cemetery at Dingess, WV.

 

Pallbearers will be Johnnie Tomblin, Evan Dale Vance, Nathaniel Stroud, Matt Cook, William Ray Hannah, and Chad Anderson.

 

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
