Sherman Ray Smith

Sherman Ray Smith, 71 of Harts WV, departed this life on January 23rd, 2024, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 22nd, 1952, in West Hamlin WV the son of the late Sherman Smith and Muriel Manns-Dalton.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Charolette Smith and his grandparents Archie and Hettie Manns.

Sherman enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, going on vacations with his wife, holding and playing with his great grandson, smoking cigars, drinking his cold Pepsi, and playing cards. Sherman Ray Smith, along with his wife Charolette Smith, founded Smith's handy mart in Harts, WV in 1987 and ran their business until 2007. In addition to his business Sherman was a founding member of the Harts Volunteer Fire Department as the fire chief and EMT for 20 years. Sherman and his wife Charolette were members of the Piney Community Church of Harts, WV.

Those left to cherish his memory include one son, Garron Ray Smith of Harts, WV;  sister Bettina Bailey of Elizabeth City, NC; brothers Donald, Gregory, and Scotty Smith of Harts, WV; grandchildren, Austin (Shayla) Smith of Barboursville, WV; great-grandchild Walker Ray Smith of Barboursville WV; special friends Jenny Vance, Shawnetta Wiley, Bobby Boehm, Ercel Workman, Herman Kirk, Raymond Carter, Rusty Ritchie, Terry Brumfield, Jackie Ritchie, Laura Blevins, and a host of many more friends.

Visitation will be on Friday January 26th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Freeman Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., January 27th at the funeral home with Adam Kirk, Arthur Smith, and Manasses Hensley Jr officiating. Burial will follow at the Adams-Dempsey Cemetery, Harts, WV.

Pallbearers will be Ercel Workman, Jeremy Toney, Donald Smith, Keith Smith, Austin Smith, Jarred Black, and Mark Vance.

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
