Sherman F. Lester Jr

Sherman F. Lester Jr, 80 of Lake, WV departed this life on September 5, 2015 at his residence.

He was born June 13, 1935 in Ethel, WV a son of the late Sherman F. and Violet Lester.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Hodges and Phyllis Maynard and two brothers, Mike and Rodney Lester.

Sherman was in the USMC from 1953 – 1957, 20 years service with the Lake Fire Department, a member of the VFW, Marine Corp League, and the UMWA. Sherman was a Trustee at Mt. Mission Church and a foster care parent to 69 children in the last 20 years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 40 years, Sue Lester; four sons, Sherman F. Lester III and his wife Tina of Lancaster, SC, Richard Alan Lester and his wife Thressa of Indian Trail, NC, Mark Stollings and his wife Cindy and Wade Stollings and his wife Kaye all of Chapmanville; two brothers, Gary Lester and his wife Helen of Barboursville, WV and Richard Lester and his wife Carol of Martinsville, WV; seven grandchildren, Christopher Lester, Jesse Lester, Laura Lester, Amy Lester, Felecia Stollings, Zack Stollings, and Cameron Stollings; and five great-grandchildren, Ava, Emma, John, Anika and Anastasia.

Services will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Freeman Funeral Home with Charles Nelson and Wiley Kent officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, WV.

Friends may call Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 12 – 2 pm at the funeral home..

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and the Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
