Rufus Workman, Sr, 81 of Manila, WV, departed this life on April 28, 2025 at his residence.

He was born January 27, 1944 in Holden, WV the son of the late Floyd and Georgia Workman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Rufus Workman, Jr, brothers, Dallas, Junior, Ted, and Luke, sister, Patty and brothers-in-law, Rick and Tom Artist; and his father and mother-in-law, Mack and Opal Artist.

Rufus was a member and deacon of Crossroads Community Church for 35 years. He enjoyed going to church, fishing, working on cars, and picking on everyone he loved. Rufus was a member of since 1976 of the UMWA Local 9177 for 49 years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62 years, Mavis Artist-Workman; sisters, Betty Workman, and Lucy Williams; brothers, Lindsey Workman and Troy Workman; granddaughter, Amanda (Jason) Workman-Hodge; great grandchildren, Jayson and Ameila Adams; brother-in-law, Paul (Rose) Artist; special friends, Dale Freeman, Dave Allred, Melvin Williamson, Lowell Hager, and Chuck Cavins and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends that he loved.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Freeman Funeral Home with Joe Lane officiating. Burial will follow at the Williamson Cemetery, Harts, WV.

Visitation will be on Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 12:00pm – 1:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jayson Adams, Paul Artist, Jason Hodge, Jake Artist, Zack Artist, Nick Fowler, Tyler Ashley, JR Hager and Jason Hager.

Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin Williamson, Dave Allred, Dale Freeman and Lowell Hager.

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
