Rose Duty Obituary

On Saturday, January 18th, Heaven gained a strong, beautiful angel. Rose Ann Duty passed on to be with her Lord, who she served with true devotion during her time on Earth.

Rose departed this world from her home in Dobra, WV where she lived with her husband, Harrison Duty. Rose was a founder of the Dobra Community Church, a faithful attendant at a church in Thomasville, North Carolina, and attended Monclo Freewill Baptist Church when her body allowed.

Although she is no longer with us, Rose lived a full life during her time. She travelled much of the United States with her selfless and loving husband, Harrison, making everlasting memories and seeing unforgettable sites all across the country. Rose also enjoyed attending church, laughing with loved ones, and spending time with her family.

Born on November 2nd, 1941, Rose was the daughter of Virgil and Fairy Terrell, and she was one of eight children. She is survived by her brothers Gary, and Freddie and her sisters Patty, Connie, and Gloria. Her brothers, Virgil Ray and Danny, preceded her in death. Rose was an aunt to many wonderful nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Along with her husband, Rose is also survived by one son, four daughters, and one step-daughter: Emerson (Bo) Kirk, Debbie Akers, Lillian Reed, Wanda Backus, Brenda Adkins, and Faye Brumfield. She is preceded in death by two step-sons, Greg and Stevie Duty, and one grandson, Charlie Akers.

A host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren referred to Rose as “Mamaw Duty:” Kristin (Andrew) Miller and daughters Brooklyn and Ashtyn; Holly (Warren) Nichols and daughter Hannah; Bryon Akers and children Kierra, Tyler, Nathan, and Carter; Justin (Miranda) Akers and children Tanner and Taylor; Kelsi Akers, the daughter of the late Charlie Akers; Tina (Dennis) Hill and sons Devin and Alex; Dayton (JR) Reed and children Dayleena and Dayton Reed Jr.; Chad Reed and children Cartessa, Chad, Chevy, Chastin, and Brentley; Ricky Backus Jr.; Tawnya Backus and children Charlie, Alexxus, Sydney, and Ricky; Brandi Miller and daughter Katelyn Miller; Brittani Adkins; and Amanda Brumfield.

Services will be held at Freeman's Funeral Home in Chapmanville, WV on Saturday, January 25th. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm, and the funeral will follow directly after at 1:00 pm. Joe Lane, Paul Little, and Gayle Little will speak during the ceremony to honor the life of Rose Ann Duty and her Heavenly Father. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens on Old Logan Road, Chapmanville, WV.
