Robert Lee Sperry, 82 of Big Ugly passed away on October 31, 2020 at his residence.
He was born March 1, 1938 in Ragland, WV to the late Dewey & Myrtle Sperry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence Sperry, Clarence Sperry and Billy Sperry.
Robert worked underground in the coal mines for Eastern Coal Company in Wharton for 30+ years. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. Robert will be loved and missed tremendously by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nellie Sperry; sons, Herbert (Lisa) Sperry of Chapmanville, Robert “Earl” (Barbara) Sperry of Foster and Gene (Brianne) Sperry of Madison; daughter, Linda Sperry of Lick Creek; brothers, Dewey (Darnell) Sperry, Carl Sperry, Howard (Barbara) Sperry, and Arlan (Margie) Sperry; sisters, Jean Rico and Mae Douglass; grandchildren, Melissa (Justin) Elkins, Kim (Johnny) Fowler, Andrew (Apple) Sperry, Sheena (Jason) Tarkenton, Robert “Earl” Sperry Jr (Lisa), Nicholas (Jenny) Sperry, Christian Ball, Noah Ball, Cameron Sperry, Colton Sperry, Tucker Sperry and Nevaeh Sperry; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Sperry officiating. Burial will follow at the Estep Branch Cemetery, Big Ugly, WV.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Sperry, Noah Ray Ball, Nick Sperry, Johnny Fowler, Jason Tarkenton and Robert Earl Sperry Jr.
