Retha “Sam” Kay Browning Trent, 70 of Slagle, Rum Creek, WV, departed this life on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Trinity Nursing Home, Logan, WV.

She was born July 4, 1955, in Slagle, WV, the daughter of the late Otis and Avennell Browning.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William H. Trent II; brothers, Lon Chaney and Roger Chaney; sister, Alice Douglas; maternal grandparents, Harry and Alice McKenzie; paternal grandparents, Isaac and Brooke Ann Browning.

Retha “Sam” loved the Lord, reading, going to church and praying for her friends and family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Crystal (Raymond) Trent Ramey; twin sister and caregiver, Roni Browning Kazee; brother, Toney Chaney; grandchildren, Raymond Ramey II, Cassius (Logan) Stoffel, Caleb Dotson, Blake Dotson, Phoenix (Jamie) Dotson, Alex Trent, Morgan Jarrett, Angela McComas, and Billy (Jasmine) Ramey; great grandchildren, Ryan Stoffel, Damian Stoffel, Conor Stoffel, Sabrina McComas, Scarlett McComas, Patrick McComas, Levi Ramey, Leia Ramey, and Everleigh Ramey; aunt, Bonnie Rios; and nieces, Carla (Jason) Fillinger, Sammi Kazee, Cassidy Kazee, Hannah Rogers, and Molly Mattas; nephews, Chris (Ashlee) Mattas, and Jake Mattas; great nephew, Harvey Jake Mattas.

The family would like to thank the 4th floor LRMC nurses; Dr. Ahmed and his staff, Carla and Trina; and Dr. Marzook and his staff, Mary Cassell and Margaret Nation.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Freeman Funeral Home with Danny Woods officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, WV.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Caleb Dotson, Blake Dotson, Raymond Ramey, Billy Ramey, Logan Stoffell and Phoenix Dotson.
