Opal Ferguson, 88, of Harts, WV, departed this life on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at her residence.
She was born June 2, 1930 in Lincoln County, WV, the daughter of the late Henry & Amanda Lucas Porter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Verlin “Lucky” Ferguson, one son, Marvin Nelson, three brothers, David “Cab” Porter, Robert Ray Porter and Gilbert “Smoke” Porter, and three sisters, Naomi Fry, Garnet Lambert and Pearl Shelton.
Opal enjoyed going to church. She was member of the Sister's in Christ gospel group and going to gospel sings.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Cheryl Nelson and Pam “Tammy” (Larry) Burger both of Ranger; three sisters, Ida Lambert, Alvirda Maynard and Mildred Maynard; two grandchildren, Larry “Shawn” (Kayla) Burger and Kevin J. (Ashley) Mullins; four great grandchildren, Raven and MaKayla Burger and Lillian and Kevin Mullins; special nephew, Willie W. (Betty) Porter; and her caregiver Lois Plumley.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Freeman Funeral Home with Larry Napier officiating. Burial will follow at the Weltha Nelson Cemetery, Ranger, WV.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 1 – 2 pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Freeman Funeral Home to help with the funeral expenses.
