Opal Lorraine Burgess, 98 of Danville, WV, departed this life on April 19, 2024 at Logan Regional Medical Center.

She was born November 17, 1925 in Blair, WV the daughter of the late Scott Burgess and Eliza Jarrell Burgess.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Tom Burgess and Charles Burgess; two sisters, Pearl Kinder and Ora Gore, five brothers, Butch Burgess, Alvin Burgess, Brady Burgess, Shorty Burgess and Lester Burgess, and one grandchild, Brandon Bates.

Opal enjoyed going out into the mountains and hollows.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Margaret Hewitt of Elkhart, IN and Lorraine Bates of Florida; one son, Jody Burgess of Danville; grandchildren, Brian Hewitt, Michael Frickert, both of Indiana, Tommy Burgess and Scotty Burgess both of Holden; Jon Bates of Florida, Terra Smith of Apple Grove; and Kaleigh Hewitt of Goshen, IN; nine great grandchildren, Tristen, Caleb and Victoria all of Holden, Morgan of Teays Valley, Sophia, Leah, David, Eliza and Caleb all of Indiana.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Freeman Funeral Home with Ralph Caudill officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Old Logan Road, Chapmanville, WV.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 12:00pm until 1:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be John Stalcup, Johnny Thompson and other family and friends.
