Mildred Adkins Obituary

Mildred Mae Adkins, 92 of Lake, WV, departed this life on January 14, 2024 at the home of Stanley & Sarah Adkins in Lake, WV.

She was born May 29, 1931 in Manbar, WV the daughter of the late Lewis Chafin & Clara Harbor Chafin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie Adkins, sisters, Ethel Moore, Odessa Chandler, Pearl Chafin, Peachie Hill, Gladys Collins and Arvena Riffle, and brothers, Golden Chafin, Silas Chafin, Mathias Chafin, and Tiny Chafin.

Mildred was a Christian and longtime member and guitarist at the Mill Creek Church of God. She enjoyed playing the guitar, singing gospel music and going to church. In her early years she enjoyed ministering in song to the disabled in their homes. Mildred loved family gatherings and especially having the children spend time with her, cooking and making cathead biscuits for her family. She loved to shop especially for shoes and was a flashy dresser. Mildred never met a stranger and loved everyone.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Elaine (Virgil) Lovejoy of Lake, WV; sons, Kevhen Ralph (Terri) Adkins of Williamson, WV and Stanley Robert (Sarah) Adkins of Lake, WV; sister, Arbutus Bryant; grandchildren, Lisa Smith, Scott Adkins, Trena Dingess, LaDonna Pauley, Angela Baker, Telina Frye and Stephanie Robinette; great-grandchildren, Kandace Adkins, Austin Williams, Nathaniel Smith, Tyler Robinette, Natalie Pauley, Brittany Gladfelter, Charleigh Adkins, Caleb Robinette, Ethan Baker, Isaiah Frye, Alyssa Robinette, Ryleigh Frye, and Sofia Blair; great-great grandchildren, Esmé Gladfelter and Oliver Gladfelter; she is also survived by, Martha Selvig, and special caregivers who added so much joy to the last 6 months of her life, Shelli McNeely and Brittany Kirk.

Services will be held at 12:00pm, Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Mick Frye officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, WV.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Zack Blair, Isaiah Frye, Caleb Robinette, Boyd Elkins, Austin Williams and Jack Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Davey Dingess and Tyler Robinette.

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
