Melody Nelson, 63 of Lake, WV, departed this life on April 14, 2025 at her residence.

She was born September 17, 1961 in Man, WV the daughter of the late Howard and Evelyn Rice.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Nelson, brothers and sisters-in-law, Sharon Rollins, Cathy Casto, Scottie Vincent and Junior Dillon and her father and mother-in-law, Elmer Jr and Hettie Nelson.

Melody was a member of the Mt. Mission Community Church at Lake, WV. She loved sewing, flowers, gardening, going to church and cooking for her family. Melody loved her church and church family. She was a 1979 graduate of Sharples High School.

Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Douglas (Amanda) Nelson; two sisters, Tammy Dillon and Gwen Winner; two grandchildren, Preston Nelson and Parker Nelson; her dog Cooper; sister-in-law, Sherry Vincent; special nieces and nephew, Chawnda Vincent, Heather Vincent, and Mark Vincent, who were like her children, Mike Aleshire, Roger Ray Casto, Teresa Darnell, and Nicolle Lochary; her best friend, Rose Kinder; and many other friends and family.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Mt. Mission Community Church, Lake, WV.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Skip Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at the Memory Gardens on Low Gap Road, Danville, WV.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Preston Nelson, Parker Nelson, Mark Vincent, Heather Vincent, Jeffrey Woody and Josh Woody.

Honorary pallbearer will be Paul Woody.
