Martha Ruth Johnson, 88 of Spencer, WV, formerly of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on November 16, 2025 at her daughters residence.

She was born July 25, 1937 in Logan, WV, the daughter of the late Ray & Almeda Merritt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Johnson, sisters, Rose Chapman, and Esther Koutny, brothers, Kenneth, Donnie and Dennis Merritt and her father and mother-in-law, Ned and Pearl Johnson.

Martha was a homemaker for 70 years. She enjoyed decorating, crafting and antiquing.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Debbie Farris and Donna (Rusty) Lucas; one son, Billy (Shannon) Johnson; one sister, Carol Wiseman; five grandchildren, Shane (Mandi) Lucas, Ryan Farris, Allie (Zak) Martin, Skylar (Destiny) Johnson and Sammie (Russell) Kidwell; and eight great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Bentley Martin, Kollyns Farris, Audrey, Merritt and Ramsey Kidwell, Warren Johnson, and Kieran and Kaden Tolliver.

Services will be held at 11:30am, Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Freeman Funeral Home with Jimmy Carter officiating. Burial will follow at the Johnson Cemetery, Saw Mill, Chapmanville, WV.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 11:00am – 11:30am at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Shane Lucas, Ryan Farris, Skylar Johnson, Zak Martin and Russell Kidwell.
