Marjorie Holbrook Obituary

Marjorie Holbrook, 96 of Switzer, WV, departed this life on Monday, September 1, 2025, at her residence.


She was born October 10, 1928, in Delphia, KY, the daughter of the late Delno Miniard and Mamie Gross Miniard.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson Morris Holbrook, two brothers, George Miniard who was an Army Veteran who served in the Korean War receiving a Silver Star Medal and Vernon Gross Miniard who was an Army Veteran serving in the Pacific, two sisters, Mazie Caudill and Mabel Birkla, her grandparents, George & Sarah Shepherd Miniard & George and Laura Murrell Gross and her father and mother-in-law, Henry Morgan Holbrook who was a Veteran serving in the Army in WWI in Germany & Maggie Alice Lankford Holbrook.


Marjorie was Club Champion at Golf, along with her husband Jack. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a volunteer for the Red Cross, 50-year member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, 35 years as treasurer of the Woman's Club of Omar and a member of the DAR, Anne Bailey Chapter. Marjorie was also the President of the family business, and an accomplished artist, winning awards for her paintings. She was also nominated by the Woman's Club of Omar for the Logan County Belle and chosen by the Chamber of Commerce to represent Logan County in 2002-2003 at Glenville State College at the Appalachian Festival.


Marjorie enjoyed breeding, raising and showing German Shepherd dogs for years with her daughter, traveling to many states. She was a graduate of Stuart Robinson School at Blackey, Ky., in Letcher County in 1949. She married her Jack who was a decorated WWII Veteran and a Civil Engineer, that year and made their home in Kentucky and for more than 50 years in WV. She was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother.


Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Patricia Ann Holbrook of Switzer; one son, Michael Keith Holbrook who is a Vietnam Veteran who served in the Airforce and his wife Deborah Lee of Omar; four sisters, Tommie Jean Miniard Smith of Greenville, KY, Gladean Miniard Shepherd of Gordon, KY, Carolyn Miniard Pratt of Monticello, KY and Sarah Frances Miniard Cornett of Slemp, Ky; one brother, Arthur Odell Miniard who is a Veteran and served in the Army during the Vietnam Era and his wife Eunice of London, Ky; two grandchildren, Brian Keith Holbrook who was a Navy Veteran serving in Dessert Storm and his wife Danielle of Huntington; Jeffrey Michael Holbrook and his wife Shelley of Switzer; five great-grandchildren, Ashton Nicole Barrett and her husband Kris of Madison, Presley Ann Holbrook of Switzer, Jeffrey Ty Holbrook who is in the Marine Corp in San Diego, CA, Brianne Elizabeth Short and her husband Sean of Ona, and Lucas Conway Holbrook of Huntington; and two great-great grandchildren, Reese Cooper Barrett of Madison and Bennett Wayne Short of Ona.


We will miss you Mom, but you are at peace now, and with your beloved Jack, mom, dad, brothers, sisters, kin, family and friends.


Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, September 5, 2025 at Ison – Miniard Cemetery in Slemp, Ky with Danny Dixon and John Miniard officiating.


Pallbearers will be Brian Holbrook, Jeffrey Holbrook, Michael Cornett, and nephews and friends.


Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
