Macle "Madge" Bates

Macle “Madge” Bates, 89 of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on January 7, 2022 at her residence.

She was born May 18, 1932 in Chapmanville, WV the daughter of the late Everett & Abbie Fowler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Bates, brothers, Joseph, Carl, William, Ted, Rodney, and James Everett Fowler, sister, Dinah Hurt and her father and mother-in-law, Daniel & Lavesta Bates.

Madge loved caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reading, planting flowers and gardening.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Ernest Dale Bates; one daughter, Melody (Roy) Craddock; two sisters, June Thompson and Patty Police; five grandchildren, Rodney (Misti) Craddock, John Craddock (Heather Ball), Kayla (John) McGladdery, Drema (Boyd) Adams and Daniel Bates (Kayla Dingess); and nine great-grandchildren, Rodney A., Jamey, Cheyenne, Colton, and Keegan Craddock, Gabby and Greyson Bates, Kamryn Cupler, and Chase Adams.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00pm, Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, WV with Johnny Steele officiating.

Pallbearers will be Rodney S. Craddock, John W. Craddock, Daniel Bates, Kamryn Cupler, Colton Craddock and Chase Adams.

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
