Mable Ester Wood

Mable Ester Wood, 79, of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Hillcrest Nursing Home.

She was born February 11, 1939 in Branchland, WV, the daughter of the late Estell Toppings and Ruth Browning Toppings.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Nicholas & Annie Toppings, two brothers, Cletus Toppings and Estell Toppings Jr, one sister, Rosella Toppings, two granddaughters, Christina “Missy” Elliot and Tabitha Hanson, the father of her children, Arnold Wood and her companion, Johnny Riffe.

Mable enjoyed singing on the Friendly Neighbor Radio Show, cooking, reading and working in her flower garden. She was a beautiful, kind person with a heart of pure gold. Mable will be sadly missed by her family and everyone that knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory include five sons, Craig (Mary) Wood, Randy (Shirley) Wood, Mike (Tawnya) Wood, Mark Wood and David (Terri) Wood; two brothers, Gail Toppings and Denver Toppings; nine grandchildren, Randy Wood Jr, Mathew Wood, Cheryl Maynard, Kelsi Wood, Adam Wood, Chris Wood, Justin Wood, Michael Wood Jr and Aaron Wood; a host of great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Freeman Funeral Home with John Wiley officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Hurricane, WV.

Visitation will be on Monday, August 20, 2018 from 6 – 9 pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Randy Wood Jr, Matt Wood, Chris Wood, Justin Wood, Russell Black and Chris Shields.
