Linda Jane Rakes, 66 of Ranger, WV, departed this life on November 1, 2024 at her residence.

She was born October 30, 1958 in West Hamlin, WV the daughter of Pearlie Maynard Nelson of Harts, WV and the late Vernon Nelson.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one sister, Brenda Rakes, niece, Tiffeny Jones-Nelson, and her mother-in-law, Wanda Rakes-Shelton.

Linda enjoyed spending time with her husband and two sons, gardening, and lawn work. She took pride in caring for her loved ones.

In addition to her mother, those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Herbert “Jake” Rakes; sons, Herbert “JJ” Rakes and Scotty Rakes; sisters, Bonnie (Gary) Vest and Sue Sams; brothers, Rod Nelson and Randy Nelson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends that she adored and loved.

Services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, November 8, 2024 at Freeman Funeral Home with Jimmy Carter officiating.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
