Linda Marie Adkins

Linda Marie Adkins (71) left this world for her heavenly home Thursday February 11, 2021 at Iredell Memorial Hospital (Statesville, NC) with her children by her side. Linda was born July 26, 1949 in McDowell County near Ritter in West Virginia but spent the majority of her life in Lake, WV. Linda graduated from Logan High School.  

Linda grew up one of 8 children in a strong Christian family and was baptized first at Freewill Baptist Church at George’s Creek near Ethel before being baptized in the creek at Lake by her brother-in-law Wesley Craddock. Linda attended Lake Holiness Church and Eastern Sky Church of God in Conover, NC as her health allowed. She studied her Bible & practically every Sunday could be found watching the services on Facebook.  

Linda met the love of her life Lowell Adkins in Lake and they married on June 3, 1967. He preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 2012. They had many fun adventures together, and owned many Ford vehicles.  

Linda was a Proverbs 31 woman, taking care of the house, helping her husband & raising their children. Linda & Lowell were active in the VFW & were known for their surprise visits to NC. Linda spent the last 20+ years looking after her sister Catherine.  

Approx. 3 years ago, she moved to North Carolina to be near all her children & their families. Due to the move the grandkids were able to enjoy many hours with their beloved “MawMaw”. 

Linda loved her family, reading the Bible, spending time with her kids and grandkids, painting, crocheting, quilting, Facebook, “Farming” on Farmtown, Days of our Lives, Jeopardy & travelling. She was always up for a car trip going to Maine to see family, a family trip to the beach or recently, and trips just to ride through the Blue Ridge Mountains. She loved games and many family discussions were held around a Phase 10 or Scrabble game.  

Linda is preceded in death by her parents Preacher Ivan & Evelyn Mullins, husband Lowell Adkins, brothers William “Ivan” & James, sisters Doris, Pam, Patsy & Juanita, special brother-in-law Bill Miller & special friend Phyllis Adkins.  

Survivors include her children, sons Gerald & wife Elizabeth Adkins of Olin, NC, James “Jamie” Adkins of Claremont, NC, Anthony “Tony” Adkins of Hickory, NC, daughter Maria Adkins of Claremont, NC. Her beloved grandchildren; Lydia Faith West, Alyssa Marie West, Amanda Renee Adkins, Taylor Grace Adkins, Walker Lowell Adkins, Lee Pearce Adkins & Corinna Marie Adkins all of North Carolina, her sister Catherine Mullins of the home, as well as a special sister-in-law Tiny Miller of Lake, WV and special friend Melissa Adkins of Hickory, NC. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.  

Linda’s family will receive friends from 11 AM to 12 PM Monday Feb. 15, 2021 with a funeral to follow at 12 PM at Freeman Funeral Home in Chapmanville, WV. Rev. David Childress will officiate the service.  

Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill, WV. Pallbearers will be her sons Gerald, Jamie, Tony Adkins, nephew Chris Miller, friends Blake Carpenter and Jonathan Prescott. Honoree pallbearers will be her grandsons, Billy Ray Hayes, Lonnie Dale Meeks, and Truman Adkins.  

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do a good deed for others, or donate to the youth group at your local church.
