Lily Mae (Adams) Dempsey-Church, 83, of Harts, was wrapped in the arms of the Lord, and went to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Lily was born March 4, 1942, in Harts, to the late Millard and Armilda (Ramey) Adams.
In addition to her parents, Lily was proceeded in death by her first husband and high school sweetheart, Howard “Weaver” Dempsey whom she married on July 4, 1959, and they remained married until his sudden death in 1996, after 36 years of marriage; and her second husband, Willard Church of Man who she loved tremendously and married in 1998. Also proceeding her in death are her sisters, Weltha Jean (Tracy) Kirk, Charlotte Ruth (Ray) Smith, Belle (Doodie) Whitt, and Phyllis (Blaine) Black; and in laws, Jason and Belle (Mullins) Dempsey.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Sherrie Robin (Eugene) Browning and Millard “Bucky” (Phyllis) Dempsey both of Harts; grandchildren Kent (Nikki) Dempsey and Isaiah John-Paul Browning both of Harts, and Brandi (Dustin) Smith of Chapmanville; great-grandchildren Oliver Dempsey of Harts, and Brooklin and Josiah Smith of Chapmanville; sister Darlene (the late Charles) Godfrey of Ohio; and special friend, Margaret Thompson of Harts; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
Lily adored everyone and loved big. She loved going to church, singing for the Lord, cooking for others, working in her flower beds, running the roads, shopping, her fuzzy blankets, talking and gossiping on the phone, having her hair and nails done, Almond Joy and Zagnut candy bars, banana splits from Parkway, watching Little House on the Prairie and crime shows on tv.
Lily was baptized at the young age of 16 and was a lifelong Christian and member of the Cole Branch Church in Harts. Lily was a homemaker, and was always thinking of, and caring for others in any way she could.
The family would like to thank Dignity Hospice Care, Nurse Leann Vance, Dr. Anitra Ellis, and Dr. James Walker for their love, care, and patience to Lily and her family during this difficult time.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
