Karl David Viars Obituary
Karl David Viars, of Chapmanville, WV, met his Heavenly Father at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on May 25, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, remembered for his strong work ethic, kind heart, and unwavering faith.
Karl was a dedicated coal miner for 35 years, known for his tireless commitment and his gift for building and creating with his hands. His craftsmanship and hardworking spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. A proud and faithful member, trustee, and choir member of Victory Freewill Baptist Church, Karl served his church and community with love and dedication.
He is preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Viars; his parents, Mary and Winston Viars; and his sister-in-law, Francis Viars.
Karl is survived by his loving wife, Ladie Viars of Chapmanville; his son, Jason Viars of Belle, WV; his stepchildren, Charles S. Wallace and Emily S. Wallace, both of Chapmanville, WV; three brothers, Dewey (Connie) Viars of Omar, Doug (Susie) Viars of Henlawson, and Scott Viars of Crawley Creek, WV; his in laws, Jim (Ruth) Marcum, Fred (Brenda) Marcum, Sharon Marcum, Ernest (Annie) Marcum, Donna (Tom) Ooton, Philip “PJ” Marcum, and Mark (Lori) Marcum.
He is also survived by his lifelong best friend, Perry Osborne and the son of his heart, Jonny Slazo. He will be missed by a host of friends and family. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. James Stollings and Dignity Hospice for the care and compassion shown to them. He will be dearly missed and forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 12:00 PM, with Rev. Roscoe Chafin and Rev. Jonny Slazo officiating. Karl will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
