Joyce Elkins Patterson, 82, a longtime resident of Lakeland, Fla., died Nov. 27, 2025.

Born in Mingo County, Joyce was the daughter of the late Talbert Raymond and Gladys Duty.

Preceding her in death were her respective husbands Fred Elkins and Charles Patterson as well as one grandson, Freddie Kinser as well as her brother Raymond Duty and sister Carol Lynn Duty Hall.

She is survived by her children Robert (Julie) Elkins, of Annandale, Va.; Stephannie Tomblin, of South Charleston; Renee Kinser, of Foster; and Beth (David) Boggess, of Scott Depot. Her sister, Rosa Lea McNeal, also survives her. In addition to her children, she is survived by 11 grandchildren, Bud (Lacie) Shadd; Thomas (Heather) Shadd; Luke Elkins, Jane Elkins, Tymothy (KateLyn) Boggess-Gillia, Coltin Gore, Samantha (Trenton) Schubert, Carli Boggess, Denielle Todd, Zachary Kinser, and Dylan Kinser, and five great grandchildren.

She will be laid to rest with her parents in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.

Her family is planning a memorial service at a later date with the assistance of Freeman Funeral Home.
