John “JC” Cornette Lusk, 88 of Harts, WV formerly of Penny, KY, departed this life on February 7, 2026 at his residence.

He was born June 18, 1937 in Penny, KY the son of the late Charles & Melvina Lusk.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marcus & Thersia Cornette Lusk, Henry Newsome and Matilda Newsom Bartley, one sister, Beulah Adkins, one brother, Marcus Lusk and his father and mother-in-law, Denver & Lona Smith.

JC was a proud Army veteran and a Deacon of the Freedom United Baptist Church. He enjoyed attending church and was very involved with all church activities. He especially enjoyed supporting and spending time with the youth and children of the church. He retired from the United Postal Service after 27 years. In his spare time, he loved attending sporting events, golf, bowling, fishing and raising a garden.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Flora Marie Lusk of Harts, WV; one son, John Cornette Lusk II of Fountain Hills, AZ; one sister, Tee (William) Noggle of Pinehurst, NC; one grandchild, Zac (Isabella) Lusk of Surprise, AZ; four great-grandchildren, Zoey Lynn, Oakley Ann, Janey Grey and Betty Elliot Lusk all of Surprise, AZ; special family members, Benny and Ellen Smith of Pickerington, OH; two nieces, Marcia Watts and Andrea Koons; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11:00am, Sunday, February 15, 2026 at Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Smith Cemetery, Harts, WV.

Visitation will be on Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
