John Wilson Payne, 77 of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on May 1, 2024 at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born January 2, 1947 in Chapmanville, WV the son of the late Leonard and Olive Payne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wilson & Hattie Riddle Conley and John Payne and two brothers, Leonard Payne Jr and Lawrence Payne.

John loved old cars, fishing, hunting, and riding 4-wheelers.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Debbie Payne; son, John Payne Jr; sisters, Judy Payne, Linda Lloyd and Sue (Delbert) White; brothers, Alvin (Katie) Payne, David (Dora) Payne, James “Bo” Payne and Lonnie (Patricia) Payne; grandchildren, Crystal Payne and Joshua Payne; and two great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Freeman Funeral Home with Johnny Steele officiating. Burial will follow at the Payne Family Cemetery, Smokehouse, Chapmanville, WV.

Visitation will be on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be D.R. White, Travis White, Delbert White, Logan Vickers, Luke Vickers and Timothy Isaacs.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gab and Ross Payne.
