John Gregory Mendez

John Gregory Mendez, 68, of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Logan Regional Medical Center.

He was born November 17, 1950 in Switzer, WV, a son of the late John Estrada Mendez and Maria Luisa Ramirez Mendez.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Colin Baugher and his in-laws, Willis and Anna Mae Carter.

John enjoyed gardening, going to the flea markets, and being a loving papaw to his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Emma Jean Carter Mendez; three daughters, Melissa (Martin Begnal) Mendez, Andrena Mendez, and Jina (Jim) Martin; three sons, John (Corey) Mendez, Micky (Rachel) Mendez and Rocky (Krista) Mendez; eight sisters, Maria Brewer, Linda Lambert, Anita Amburgey, Gloria Chambers, Diana Mendez, Margarita Shell, Emelia Spencer, and Juanita Lanham; three brothers, Vince Mendez, Ray Mendez and Marty Mendez; and nine grandchildren, Chandler, Madeline, Ryder, Ella, Freya, Ian, Quinn, Harper and Rose.

Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, August 23, 2019 at the St. Barbara Catholic Church, Chapmanville, WV with Father Yesu Golla officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Old Logan Road, Chapmanville, WV.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 6 – 9 pm at the Freeman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be his sons, John, Micky, and Rocky Mendez, sons-in-law, Marty Begnal and Jim Martin and grandson, Chandler Begnal.

Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers, Vince, Ray and Marty Mendez.
