James "Jake" Hughes

James “Jake” Hughes, 25, of Harts, WV, departed this life on January 14, 2023 at his residence.

He was born September 14, 1997 in Huntington, WV, the son of Beverly Hughes and the late James “Hank” Hughes.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Guy Compton, James Hughes and Phyllis Hughes and a special cousin, Ariana Hutchinson.

Jake enjoyed spending time with his wife and son, making everyone laugh, fishing and hanging out with family and friends.

In addition to his mother, those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Abigail Hughes; one son, James Raylen Hughes; grandmother, Mavis Compton; one sister, Heather Hughes (Evan); his in-laws, Rickey and Tabbatha Sexton; nieces, Penny and Fallon; special cousins, Austin, Mitchell and Makayla Cline, and Odessa Fry; brother-in-law, Charles Stallard; and a host of aunts, uncles, other family and friends.

Services will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas McComas officiating. Burial will follow at the Lucas Cemetery, Greenshoals, WV.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Evan Gillenwater, Mitchell Cline, Austin Cline, Charlie Stallard, Josh Vance and Guy Compton.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Freeman Funeral Home to help with arrangements.
