James T. Browning, 77 of Chapmanville, WV passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. James Was deeply love by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud papaw, caring brother, uncle, neighbor, and faithful friend.

James loved people and never met a stranger. He enjoyed conversation, helping others, and spending time with his family and friends. Above all else, James loved the Lord. His faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life, and he lived each day with that love guiding him. His family takes comfort in knowing he is now in Heaven.

James loved his family deeply and took great pride in each one of them. He loved Jesus with all his heart and lived his life showing kindness, generosity, and love to others. He will be greatly missed by so many family members and friends whose lives were touched by his love, laughter, and faith.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Mildred Sue Dingess Browning of Chapmanville, WV. Their marriage of 55 years was built on deep love, commitment, and faith. One day they will reunite in Heaven again.

He is also survived by his children: Paul Browning, Melissa (Tony) Bryant, Vikki Southerland, Cindy Browning, Abron Browning, Jamie (Michael) Ewchuck, Reuben (Courtney) Browning, and Melinda (Tyler) Trent.

James was a proud papaw to his cherished grandchildren: Katie, Anthony (Katey,) Alyssa, Hannah, Tara, Jacob, Nicholas, Caleb, Easton, Peyton, Lily, and Ella.

He was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Noah, Grayson, and soon-to-be baby Gracelyn.

James shared a special bond with his dear sister, Linda Thompson and her husband Jack Thompson; his niece, Tonya and her husband, Howard Hindla along with their children and grandchildren; He also leaves behind many beloved cousins, nephews, extended family, and friends who loved him dearly.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his son, James Stacey; daughter, Grace Browning Hensley; his mother, Nawasa Fillinger; father, James Edward Browning; two sisters; and two brothers.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 12:00pm-1:00pm at Freeman Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Freeman Funeral Home with Vivie Marcum and Lanny Slazo officiating. Burial will follow at the Fillinger Family Cemetery.
