Ishmael W. Shelton

Ishmael W. Shelton, 85, of Oakwood, OH, formerly of Ranger, WV, departed this life on May 21, 2023 in Oakwood, OH.

He was born November 13, 1937 in Ranger, WV, the son of the late Herbert & Letha Shelton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Victor & Sarah Shelton and Ira & Viola Lambert, granddaughter, Lillian Rose Shelton, eight brothers, Clifford, Lester, Victor, Weldon, Goza, Oder, Herbert Jr and Larry, seven sisters, Dorothy, Beatrice, Ruth, Claudia, Marcella, Melissa and Brenda and his father and mother-in-law, Barney & Eula Mae Gribble.

Ishmael's home congregation was Oakwood Church of Christ, but when he was in West Virginia his home congregation was 14 Mile Church of Christ. He retired from General Motors in Defiance, OH. Ishmael loved to farm, raise cattle and chickens, working in his garden, coon hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Jeannie Shelton; one daughter, Jeanette Shelton of Defiance, OH; two sons, Gregory (Kerry) Shelton and Jessie (Ashley) Shelton both of Groverhill, OH; one sister, Lorraine (Ron) Nelson of Ranger, WV; seven grandchildren, Bridgette (Jacob) Niese, Korene Shelton, Wyatt (Allie) Shelton, Joshua Shelton, Jaxson Shelton, Gracelynn Shelton and Bradi (Noah) Ellerbrock; two great-grandchildren, Ryan & Jamison Niese; and a host of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the 14 Mile Church of Christ with Ronnie Nelson, Craig Nelson and Hoss Farley officiating. Burial will follow at the Shelton-Nelson Cemetery, Riverbend Road, Ranger, WV.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 26, 2023 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the church.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Niese, Jaxson Shelton, Wyatt Shelton, Joshua Shelton, Craig Nelson and Keith Neace.

Honorary pallbearer will be Noah Ellerbrock.

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
