Iris Marie Blankenship Burns, 84 of Chapmanville, WV departed this life on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Boone Memorial Hospital.

She was born January 19, 1939 in Myrtle, WV the daughter of the late Henry C. Spence and Utha Faye Marcum.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Steve Spence, Sally Runyon, William Marcum, and Lilly Sturgill; spouses, Raymond Burns and Allen Blankenship; siblings, Dallas Spence, Lois Wheeler, and Roy Spence.

Iris enjoyed singing in church, quilting, sewing, crafts, gardening, and painting.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Beverly Kay and Michael Slade of Chapmanville, WV; sons, Curtis Allen (Lynn) Blankenship of Huntington, WV, Bobby Dale Blankenship of Chapmanville, WV; sisters, Betty Goudy of Ohio, Alice Nichols of North Carolina, and Sharon Rose of Charleston, WV; brothers, Robert C. Spence of Hamlin, WV, Phillip of Virginia, and Russel of Kentucky; grandchildren, Amanda, Brandon, Luc, and Nathan Blankenship, Sidney, Sara, and Samantha Slade; great-grandchildren, Ada, Wyatt, Oliver Alton, and Amelia; and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 6:00 to 9:00pm at Freeman Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the funeral home with Rick Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Chapmanville, WV.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
