Hazel (Hager) Smith

Hazel (Hager) Smith, 82 of Verdunville, WV, departed this life on December 30, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 25, 1939, in Lincoln County, WV the daughter of the late Albert & Opal Hager.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four children, Maxine Smith, Wandell Smith Jr, Carlene Smith and Arlene Ward, three brothers, Freddie Hager, Everett Hager and Homer Hager, one sister, Pansee Hager and her grandparents, William and Lula Mae Sperry.

Hazel was a homemaker and loved her family unconditionally. She was a member of the Hedgeview Christian Baptist Church for many years. Hazel was of the Christian faith and an avid church goer. She loved flowers, gardening, spending time with her family and cooking large dinner for her family to enjoy.

Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Brenda (Tom) Smith of Whitman, Connie Spry of Chapmanville and Helen White of Verdunville; one son, Bobby Smith (Lulla Bradley) of Verdunville; six sisters, Lula Mae (Jimmy) Cartwright of Jonesborough, TN, Dorothy “PeeWee” Cooper, Cora Hager, Rose Ellen Cooper all of Huntington, Judy Hager of Spurlocksville and MaryAnn Martin of Julian, WV; one brother, Ronnie Hager (Betty) of Spurlocksville; seven grandchildren, Julie Fowler of Chapmanville, Charli Kitchen of Verdunville, Kayla Butcher of Chapmanville, Beth Spry of Chapmanville, Erika Smith of Six Mile, Kori White of Charleston and Garrett Smith of Blair; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Fowler, Nathan Vance and Abby Vance; three boys who treated Hazel like their own grandma, Jaden, Blaine and Jayce; and her dog Miney.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ronald Chattin and Dr. Sam Moushmoush for their many dedicated years of care and Dr. James Stollings and the staff at Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00pm, Monday, January 3, 2022, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, WV with Bobby Harrison officiating.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
