George Copley Obituary

George Henry Copley, 77, of Chapmanville WV departed this life to his new home in heaven on November 24, 2023 peacefully at home with the love of his life by his side.

Born December 5, 1945 in Dingess WV to the late Grace (Finley) and Zorie Henry Copley. He was raised by the late Lizzy Finley.

George lived in Dingess for the majority of his life, he later moved to Chapmanville after retiring from AEP following thirty years of service. George worked endlessly to ensure his community of Dingess kept electricity. He was always willing to help with any situation. George had a humble soul, outgoing personality, and he never met a stranger. He always had a smile on his face. George served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 where he completed a tour in Vietnam. During his service he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, 2 O/S Bars, and Expert Badge Rifle M14. George loved music, especially picking his guitar with his best friend Jimmy Newsome. He enjoyed sports and loved hunting and fishing with friends and family. More than anything, George loved his family.

He shared this wonderful life with his soulmate of 58 years, Barbara Sue Copley, where they were blessed with four wonderful children. The oldest, David Copley, who died at birth. George Daniel Copley (Lavina) of Lenore, WV, Gregory Dale Copley of Holden, WV. Angela Gail Hall (Clifford) of Chapmanville, WV. George was a role model and an exceptional influence to his six grandchildren, whom he taught to hunt, fish, and play ball. Byran Dale Copley (Andi), Clifford Lynn Hall Jr. (Courtney), Brittany Lashell Hall (Scott), Myran Daniel Copley (Sylest), Katelynn Gail Collins (Joshua), and Aaron Daniel Copley (Alexis). George loved his twelve great grandchildren all of whom adored their “Pop-Pop.” Elaina, Corbin, Amelia, Harper, Izaiah, Asher, Arabella, Luke, Lacey, Octavia, Maxi, and Myles. George dearly loved his brother James Copley (Ruth). He was blessed with a large extended family of two half sisters Darlene and Lisa, and three half brothers Danny, David and Bob. A dearly loved step brother Tony Bailey, and a host more step-siblings. He was also blessed with a host of special nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, December 1, 2023 at Freeman Funeral Home with brother Greg Taylor and brother Cornelius Lackey officiating.

Visitation for friends and family on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the funeral home. George will then be laid to rest in the Ferrell cemetery at Lenore, WV next to his son David.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Byran, Clifford, Myran, Aaron, Scott and Josh.
