Frederick Lee Ward Obituary

Frederick Lee Ward, 87 of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on March 21, 2026 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, in Charleston, WV.


He was born January 6, 1939 in Chapmanville, WV, the son of the late Robert & Maxie Ward.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Maxie Ward, and his grandparents, John & Sabina Ward and Greenway & Nettie Pauley.


Fred was an over the road cross country trucker who logged more than 1.5 million miles. After retiring, he dedicated his attention to missionary work in Africa and his church family.


Those left to cherish his memory include his step daughter, Bea (Gary) Gustafson of Florida; sisters, Irene Council, Carol (Ronald) Huff of Delaware, Nancy (Barry) Godby of Chapmanville, and Susan Ward of Illinois; brothers, David Ward of Delaware and Richard (Bobbi) Ward of Parkersburg; he is also survived by his special friends, Judy Baisden, and Ronald Wilson, both of West Virginia, Cecil Kleu of British Columbia, Canada, and Pastor Richard Belcher and his church family.


The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Cornerstone Family Fellowship Church, P.O. Box K, Whitman, WV 25652.


Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, March 30, 2026 at Highland Memory Gardens, Old Logan Road, Chapmanville, WV with Pastor Richard Belcher officiating.


Pallbearers will be family and friends.


Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
