Ethel Elaine Purkey

Ethel Elaine Purkey, 71 of Ranger, WV, departed this life on September 2, 2020 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, WV.

She was born May 29, 1949 in West Hamlin, WV the daughter of the late Winford Moore and Beatrice Shelton Moore.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Lethie Purkey and father-in-law, William Purkey.

Elaine was a Director, performer and host of The Friendly Neighbor Show. She also taught an after school music program for the Clay Center of Arts and Sciences of WV. Elaine enjoyed songwriting, singing, playing the guitar and being an activist. She attended the Leet Church of Christ and was a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Bethel Purkey; daughters, Tanya Purkey and Jillian Purkey-Ferrell; sisters, Vanessa (Robert) Bell and Therese (Roy) Amster; brothers, Ira (Linda) Moore, Randell (Charity) Moore and Tommy Moore; grandchildren, Danielle Wiley, Justin Wiley, Cole Ferrell and Derek Ferrell; great-grandchildren, Raylen Madden and Keiton Curry; and her mother-in-law, Annabell Purkey.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, September 7, 2020 at Freeman Funeral Home with Gary Topping and Ronnie Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at the Shelton Family Cemetery, Ranger, WV.

Friends may call Monday, September 7, 2020 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Cole Ferrell, Derek Ferrell, Justin Wiley, Anthony Bell, JD Goodson and Robert Bell.

Honorary pallbearer will be Christopher Mullins.
