Delores Ann Clay Obituary

Delores Ann Clay, 76, of Godby Heights, WV was an affectionate, dedicated, and hard-working Christian woman who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. Her journey here on Earth came to an end on September 21, 2024, as she ascended to her heavenly home.

Born in West Hamlin on December 14, 1947 to Woodrow and Audrey (Holstein) Keyser, Delores spent her first seven years in Chapmanville and then the remainder of her childhood in the Bills Branch area of Logan County. Her teen years featured singing in several youth choirs and graduating with honors from Logan High School.

Delores met the love of her life, Herman Clay in 1968. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married on June 21, 1970 in Tazewell, VA. They had two children Brent and Jennifer, whom they loved very much.

Though she loved family get-togethers, home remodeling projects, and beach vacations, Delores absolutely treasured time with her grandkids. She loved being “Granny” to Brently, Candice, Xavier, and Trinity. Most recently she was even blessed with her very first great-grandchild, Jensen.

Delores and her siblings were practically inseparable growing up and remained close throughout their lives. She and her siblings, Martha, Barbara, Patsy, Janet, Cheryl, Danny, and Woodie all made it a priority to raise their families to be close, getting together for every holiday and birthday. Many Keyser celebrations hosted over 100 extended family members and Delores thrived in the atmosphere of her loved ones.

While her work ethic began at the young age of 16 at Parkway Drive-In and later Watson’s Department Store, Delores was passionate about her role at The National Bank of Logan/Bank One/Chase. Working for the company for over 50 years, she touched the lives of many as she always went above and beyond to help both her customers and colleagues.

Delores loved the Lord and never missed an opportunity to testify and give Him praise. As a long-time member of Trinity Freewill Baptist Church, she served as President of the Circle of Friends and shone her light brightly for Jesus. In her later years, she was welcomed with open arms at Stone Branch Church of God where she attended with her daughter’s family. Delores never met a stranger and loved new friends as if she’d known them her whole life.

Delores was a remarkable woman who left behind a legacy that will forever be etched on the hearts of her family and all those who knew her. We’ll always imagine hearing her say “I love you around the world and back again” just one more time.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Audrey Keyser; her sisters, Barbara Dingess/Solanics and Martha Thacker; her in-laws, Semer and Ada Clay; three nephews, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her husband, Herman Clay; her children Brent (Natasha) Clay and Jennifer (Jay) Trump; her grandchildren, Brently (Emily) Clay, Candice (Dylan) Brown, Xavier Trump, and Trinity Trump; her great-grandson, Jensen Clay; her sisters, Patsy (Roger) Bailey, Janet Kolovich-Frye, and Cheryl Adams; her brothers, Danny Keyser and Kenneth Keyser; her sisters-in-law, Maxine Harris, Iva Sargent, and Effy (John) Reese; and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved as though they were her own.
