Danny Lee Nelson, 71, of Mill Creek, WV, departed this life on July 3, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born September 21, 1949 in Verdunville, WV, the son of the late William Grady and Georgia “Patsy” Nelson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William “Billy” Nelson and his father and mother-in-law, Burgess and Velma Maynard.
Danny was a member of the Mill Creek Church of God and former owner of Nelson's Diner. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending church, hosting family dinners, cookouts, spending time with his family along with helping others. Danny never met a stranger, and if he did, you were then considered a friend. He worked in the coal mines and for the county commission.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Aloma Maynard Nelson; one son, Danny Ray Nelson; two sisters, Brenda (Darrell) Tomblin and Barbara (Art) Kirkendoll; one brother, William “Bill” (Shirley) Nelson; two grandchildren, Brody and Rhett Garrett; he is also survived by Kim Butcher and Felicia (James) Garrett who he referred to as “his girls” and loved as his own; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 12:30pm, Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Freeman Funeral Home with Harold McMillen Jr and Harry Joe Dingess officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Old Logan Road, Chapmanville, WV.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 11:00am until 12:30pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be James Garrett, Cameron Long, Eddie Kirkendoll, Brian Kirkendoll, Derek Tomblin and Mitchell Kirk.
Honorary pallbearer will be Danny Ray Nelson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Freeman Funeral Home to help with arrangements.
