Clifford Shelton Obituary

Clifford Barton Shelton, 54, of Branchland, WV, departed this life on Friday, May 17, 2019 surrounded by loved ones.

He was born March 29, 1965 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Oder Vernon and Sylvia Pearl Porter Shelton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Amanda Lucas Porter and Herbert and Lethea Lambert Shelton, one son, Henry Luke Shelton, one niece, Sarabeth Shelton and his mother-in-law, Reba Gail Lambert Farley.

Clifford was a member of the West Hamlin Church of Christ, where he loved serving God and spreading the gospel. He loved making his wife of 30 years smile everyday. She was the love of his life. Clifford loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing. Clifford also enjoyed vacationing with Tab and Dean Williams and Courtney and Darin Cooper, he would always have a blast. He belonged to the United Steelworkers of America Union Local 14614 of Nitro, WV where he worked as a Driller on Highway Construction for Elmo Greer and Bizzack. Clifford also worked for Coal River energy as a driller. He always enjoyed and took pride in his work. Clifford made many friends but his longtime buddies were Jimmy Hensley and Dale Smith.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Pauline Shelton; one son, Warren Barton Shelton of Hamlin, WV; two sisters, Sharon (Luster) Frye and Betty Jo (Ralph) Watts both of Ranger; three brothers, Rodney (Lea) Shelton of Harts, Ron (Darlene) Shelton of Nashville, TN, and Robert (Jackie) Shelton of Boone County; sister-in-law, Trina (Anthony) Salmons; nieces, Angie Porter, Amy Watts, Kayla Shelton, Emily Shelton, Shelby Shelton, Elizabeth Thompson, and Emily Norman, nephews, Jarrod Frye, Pete Frye, Jason Frye, Shane Watts, Zachary Shelton and Ryder Shelton; great nieces and nephews, Jeremy and Ryan Porter, Cheyenne and Savannah Frye, Rhett and Maci Watts, Abby and Danny Shelton, Kinley McCoy and Nora Thompson; great-great niece Paisley Porter; and his father-in-law, Harold Kennith (Susie) Farley of Yawkey, WV.

Those that brought him great joy was Maci and Rhett Watts, Nora Blayke Thompson, Kinley McCoy, Madi Rae Mills, Lucy Shay Pritchard and Avery Kate Brumfield.

We want to thank Drs. Yehuda Lebowicz and Grace Dixon at Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center for their hard work treating Clifford but mostly their kindness and love. We are forever grateful for all the nurses that made him feel special but he had a few special ones that includes, Debbie Trador, Melissa Sheppard, Amber Sansom, Anita Spangler and Melissa Parsons.

We also want to thank Dr. Diwakar Davar and Amy Rose at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh. Pete Frye and Wandell Parker for keeping him company during the day while Pauline worked, and to the family and friends that stayed with us, called stopped by and was with us in his last days.

After the funeral there will be a gathering at the 14 Mile Church of Christ Fellowship Hall.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Freeman Funeral Home with Gary Topping and Hoss Farley officiating. Burial will follow at Lucas Cemetery, Harts, WV.

Visitation will be on Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 12 – 2 pm at the the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
