Charles Rakes

Charles Rakes, 78, of Ranger, WV, went home to be with the Lord on January 2, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 18, 1942 in West Hamlin, WV, the son of the late Bob & Elizabeth (Tipton) Rakes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, six sisters, one great grandchild, Alexis Faith Rakes and his father and mother-in-law, Edwin Bender & Lucinda Crum Bender.

His passion was his work for the Lord and his beautiful wife of 60 years, children and grandchildren. You could always find him working on something. He took a small house and turned it into a home, not only for his family but all that entered his door. The countless people he led to Christ will never forget the impact he had on them and their families. As we are left here to die, he is now living. His payday came and is now where he longed to be. Thank God for the light and path he showed, so all that can follow to see his bright smile again.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years, Shelva Rakes: five sons, Clayton & Janet, Brian, Mike, Mark, and Eric & Lindsey; one brother, Thurman & Sue; six grandchildren, CJ, Chris, Candace, Hannah, Addison, and Jenna; and five great-grandchildren, Dawson, Tucker, Brantley, Braxton and Myka.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Freeman Funeral Home with Dennie Evans officiating. Burial will follow at the Rakes Mountain Family Cemetery, Ranger, WV.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 12:00pm until 1:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be CJ Rakes, Chris Rakes, Trent Vinson, Jonny Slazo, Jonah Adkins and Mike Adkins.

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
