Chance Matthew-Jacob Artist, 12 of West Logan, WV, departed this life on September 8, 2023 at Logan Regional Medical Center.
He was born August 17, 2011 in Logan, WV the son of Jacob & Heather Artist.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard & Elva Artist; great grandparents, Troy & Bertha Anderson, Mack & Opal Artist, and Oop and Vena Shepherd; uncles, Clydie Marcum and Tom Artist; and cousin, Haydn Shepherd.
Chance was a very private, shy, quiet child who loved to play his Playstation, drawing, nature, taking trips, hikes, and teaching his siblings. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was so intelligent, handsome, passionate, kind, loving, and caring. Chance had an incredible amount of strength who found the beauty in life. He was a bottomless pit who had a love for food, especially pickles, fruits, and veggies. He was sneaky, enjoyed playing pranks on people, and telling jokes and stories to make others laugh. Chance was so proud of his parents and siblings. He loved using words larger than him when he spoke; he had so many talents, anything he set his mind to he could do it with ease. His smile and laughter could light up the darkest space. The way he loved, took care of, and protected his siblings was amazing. Chance was an old soul who enjoyed music older than him, cars, and the way of life. To know him was just a joy and blessing; he was loved by so many and will be missed tremendously.
In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory include his four siblings, Kenzi Artist, CoCo Artist, Laynee Artist and Lela Artist; his grandparents, Terry & Della Shepherd; aunts & uncles, Josh (Tammy) Artist, Jessica Marcum, Terry (Kim) Shepherd and James Shepherd; special people in his life that he loved dearly, Bubby, Calla, and Eric Artist, Xander and Lynken Harris, Kinley Shepherd, Amelia and Jayson Adams, Mavis and Rufus Workman, and his very 1st friend, Baby Dino; and a host of great aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank everyone for all the love and support they have received during this time. It has given them comfort and strength they didn't know they had. The family would like for people to wear his favorite colors blue, black, and orange to honor his memory. #forever12
