Brenda Mae Rakes, 63 of Ravenna, Ohio, departed this life on June 6, 2024 at University Hospital.

She was born May 28, 1961 in Ravenna, Ohio the daughter of Pearlie Maynard Nelson and the late Vernon Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Nelson, niece, Tiffeny Jones-Nelson, cousin, Lisa Nelson, and mother-in-law, Wanda Shelton Rakes.

Brenda enjoyed crocheting, spending time with her family especially her two grandsons, playing her games on her tablet, and solitaire.

Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Pearlie Maynard Nelson; husband, Jim “Bub” Rakes; two daughters, Cindy and Wendy Rakes; one son, Johnny (Jackie) Rakes; three sisters, Bonnie (Gary) Vest, Sue Sams, and Linda (Jake) Rakes; two brothers, Rod and Randy Nelson; two grandchildren, Mason and Corey Rakes; aunt, Irene “Tootie” Henderson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins she adored and other family and friends.

Services will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Freeman Funeral Home with Jimmy Carter officiating. Burial will follow at the Weltha Nelson Cemetery, Ranger, WV.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the Freeman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.
