Alice “Marie” Chapman, 83 of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on February 20, 2026 at her residence.

She was born September 8, 1942 in Lundale, WV, the daughter of the late Lacey Ernest & Martha Ann Jarrell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Chapman, daughter, Diana Chapman, and ten siblings, Vernis Adkins, Opal Jarrell, Linda Ward, Ernestine Boiling Hartley, Robert Jarrell, Sebert Jarrell, Troy Jarrell, Freddie Jarrell, Joe Jarrell and Roy Jarrell.

Marie was a member of the North Fork Church of Christ. She enjoyed going to church, shopping and spending quality time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Vickie Carol (Randy) Vance; her son, Douglas Ray (Susan) Chapman; four grandchildren, Monica Chapman, Jeremy (Heather) Vance, Justin (Kara) Vance, and Jacqueline Walsh; nine great grandchildren, Lillian Vance, Jeremiah Vance, Madeline Vance, Easton Vance, Lexi Vance, Liam Vance, Braxton Vance, Lucy Vance and Nathan Walsh; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Joel (Kathy) Chapman, Wyn (John) Giles and Patricia Marrs.

The family would like to thank Dignity Hospice, Hope Elkins and Ameila Spencer and All About Care, Summer Ghee for all your care and compassion.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Freeman Funeral Home with Ronnie Linville officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Old Logan Road, Chapmanville, WV.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 from 12:00pm until 1:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Doug Chapman, Randy Vance, Jeremy Vance, Justin Vance and Easton Vance.
