Irene Workman, 87, of Danville, WV, departed this life on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Meadow Brook, in Julian, WV.
She was born May 9, 1932 in Whirlwind, WV, the daughter of the late Matthew & Edna Carter.
She was preceded in death by her husband and father of her children, Edgar Workman; one son, James Workman; one grandson, Chris Workman; one granddaughter, Tonia Hinchman; her companion of 20 years and the love of her life, Stanley Fitzwater; two brother-in-laws, A.W. Buddy Marcum and Ron Hammonds; two nephews, Butch Marcum and David Jeffers; and one niece, Ashley Ferguson.
Irene enjoyed traveling with her companion Stanley, fishing, working in her flower garden, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Irene worked 20 years at Logan Mingo Area Mental Health.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Irma (Roger) Allen and Brenda Workman; one son, Danny (Barbara) Workman; three sisters, Iretta Marcum, Dothy Hammonds, Geneva (James) Gray; three brothers, Charles Clinton (Wilma) Carter, Claude (Hattie) Carter, Lucian (Virgie) Carter; three grandchildren, Eric Workman, Cory Workman, and Jill Workman; one great-grandchild, Maranda (Jay Young) Workman; three great-great grandchildren, Shade Workman, Keenan Workman, and Drayven Young; and special daughter-in-law, Virginia Workman.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Mudfork Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Tomblin officiating. Burial will follow at Carter Cemetery at Hoover, WV.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Mudfork Freewill Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be friends and family.
