Freda (Hager) West

Freda (Hager) West, 92, of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on Friday, July 5, 2019 at the Hillcrest Nursing Home, Danville, WV.

She was born April 11, 1927 in Red Jacket, WV, the daughter of the late Golden “Blue” Hager and Lucinda Neace Hager Webb.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, Casey West, two sons, Robert and Jerry West, son-in-law, Roy Mann, grandson, Clint Farris, great-grandson, Mark Farris, step-father, James Webb, five brothers, Gordon, Abby, Robert Curly and Albert Hager, and James Webb, two sisters, Goldie Hager and Opal Artist and her in-laws, Floyd and Kizzie Adkins West.

Freda enjoyed singing gospel music in acapella quartet, and reading. She was taught music by her step-father Jim. Freda was so adept at singing alto that he put her in his quartet and sang all around the area at the age of 11. The last place she sang was at the Picking in the Park, everyone there loved her singing.

Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Nancy (Howard) Fowler, Arlena (James Fowler) Mann and Drema (Frank) Farris; one son, Donald (Leann) West; one sister, Violet Smith; twelve grandchildren, Howard Fowler Jr, Casey Fowler, Treena Fink, Robert West Jr, Roy Mann Jr, Robin Conley, Mark Farris, Kayla Bryant, Jeri Ann Baisden, Angie Hensley, Amber Ghezzi and Donald West Jr; twenty-six great-grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; her special friend Ernestine Boling; and her special puppy “Baby”.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Freeman Funeral Home with Ronnie Linville officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Old Logan Road, Chapmanville, WV.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 from 6 – 9 pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
