Elder Shelton Mack Topping

Elder Shelton Mack Topping, 92, of Harts, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Dignity Hospice House, Chapmanville, WV.

He was born May 11, 1926 in Harts, WV a son of the late Kile and Anna (Shelton) Topping.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Maynard Topping, grandparents, Gilbert & Anna (Kile) Topping and John & Gracie (Adkins) Shelton, sisters, Edith Riffett, Maggie Smith, Geraldine Ellis, Lucille Baier, and Mary Joyce Perry, two special sisters, Sylvia Mae Maynard and Jean Waybright, brothers, James K. Topping, Johnnie J. Topping, Thomas D. Topping, and Verdayne “Crow” Topping and his father and mother-in-law, Ezmond and Grace Maynard.

Shelton loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and especially his great grandchildren and his great-great grandchildren. He loved discussing his military life with everyone and sharing and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Shelton was a Christian, and Mason, and loved farming, hunting, ministering to the shut-ins, and helping those in physical and spiritual need.

Those left to cherish his memory include three children, Gary (Juanita) Topping, Billy (Carolyn) Topping and Debra (Bill) Baer; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey D. Topping, Aaron (Sara) Topping, Amanda (James) Smith, Jared (Ashlee) Topping, Court (Davetta) Topping, Jessica Ellis, Derrick (Meredith) Brumfield, and Joseph (Fallon) Baer; fifteen great grandchildren, Daniel (Hope) Topping, Megan (Jacob) Townsend, Logan Topping, Alyssa Topping, Devin Carlton, Dawson Brumfield, Amelia Brumfield, Saylor Baer, Brennan Hall, Jacob Topping, Andrew Topping, Jaxson Topping, Lexi Ellis, Peyton Ellis and Autumn Ellis; four great-great grandchildren, Serenity Topping, Judah Topping, Maia Browning, and Baby Isaac Townsend; and one brother, Herbert O. Topping.

A special thanks to his Special Caregiver and sister in Christ, Teresa McCloud, the wonderful care from Dignity Hospice Team, his special neighbors, Bill Ramey and Lucille Napier and all his church friends and family who cared for him.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Freeman Funeral Home with Gary Topping officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Old Logan Road, Chapmanville, WV.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 6 – 9 pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
